Do you know your multiplication facts??
It is so important that you know your multiplication facts from 0x0 to 12x12. Many significant connections for multiplication and division occur in fourth grade. Developing a quick recall of multiplication facts and the related division facts will help you in all areas of math. We will be starting our Mad Minute Tests in September. If you need some practice go to the Math Websites page and click on a link to find games, flashcards, worksheets, etc. Below are some helpful strategies.
Strategies for Multiplication Facts
Doubles:
These facts are the same as the addition doubles. If you realize that 2 seven's are 14 you can also see that 7x2=14.
Fives:
Skip counting by 2's and 5's is a skill you learned in earlier grades. Practice counting by fives all the way up to 5x12.
Zeros and Ones:
There are 36 facts with one factor being either 0 or 1. Know that any number multiplied by 0 equals 0 and any number multiplied by 1 equals the other number. Example: 4x0=0, 8x1=8
Nines:
The nine facts contain large products, but are among the easiest to learn if you look for patterns. In one pattern the tens digit is always one less than the factor that is not the 9. And, the sum of the digits in the product always equals 9.
